From this seventh week of quarantine in NYC, communication is both crucial and weirdly skewed. None of the casual conversations with our fellow New Yorkers, no stopping to give directions, no hugs from anyone outside your household.
I am thrilled to see ART YARD Artists each week on Zoom, I keep up with emails and talk on the phone more regularly than I did pre-quarantine. My written correspondence has certainly ramped up, and the wonderful cards which have come in through the mail have brought me much joy!

What forms of communication are most important to you now? How does this communication make you feel? Has it inspired any artwork? What was the best piece of mail you've received during quarantine?
Please post your artwork, photos, ideas, thoughts and all other things that relate to this weeks CREATE inspiration -- COMMUNICATION!
This is the perfect topic in which to share my excitement over the upcoming USPS stamp issue...
I just adore her work!
Cards from home from the past few months--
What a lovely grouping of cards! 💖 🌼 🦢
Yes, I love my mom's aesthetic!!
@evelyn.rv.beliveau there is a delicacy that I associate with your hand in drawing!
@frida@artyardbklyn.org Wow, I'd never thought about that! Thank you!
Jane Huntington sends in this lovely painting of her Zoom communications:
@evelyn.rv.beliveau your photo above reminded me of a snapshot I took the other day of a note I received from my Great Aunt:
She always sends lovely cards. I was pleased to know how much she liked the image I sent her of a recent painting.
Ahh beautiful!
Thanks! My great aunt lives in Massachusetts and goes to cape cod several times a year. She frequents a card and gift shop that sells all artists made items. She stocks up on cards. This one is an original photograph by one of her favorite artists.
@frida@artyardbklyn.org So special! I've been to Cape Cod once and loved it!
That heart shaped crystal wreath is something Anna Mae got for me as a gift from the same shop. I just took the photo — you can see my little oasis of a back garden through the window.
Morning letter writing.
A few weeks ago when I realized we were all stuck at home with what ever supplies we had on hand, I asked ART YARD Artists if there were any supplies folks were in need of. All suited up in mask and gloves and armed with sanitizer I walked to Kentler and retrieved some supplies as needed.
Ardelia happily receives her charcoal!
Quentin receives his markers!
@quentinwilliamston that’s a great chart Quentin! Putting those markers to great use.

I posted his photo of the mask below!
Sarah posted this in the Book thread. I thought it a great one to add into this dialogue about communication!
Text from Sarah "Because we are in Ramadan, and as one of an old tradition, some women start to apply Henna on their hands, foot, or hair. I like Henna in the month of Ramadan; I like to draw with Henna on my hands as a kind of entry into Ramadan atmosphere. With Quarantine and us staying home, some of the traditions have not applied this year; therefore, I forgot to draw on my hands with Henna as I do every year in the month of Ramadan. After you mention the Henna Artist book, I got inspired, and I remembered to apply Henna to my hand. Thank you for your recommendation.
I draw a crescent as a symbol of Ramadan"
@sarah.a.g I copied your henna post from the book thread here, because I think it is an excellent topic for the communication thread as well!
@frida@artyardbklyn.org Yes it is ;)
Here's another morning letter writing image I took a couple of days ago for this thread and forgot to post.
