I have been thinking about color, the power of a vibrant hue, the subtle nuance of an opposite shade, the visceral reaction to a saturated tone.
I have been thinking about, painting, reading and painting and thinking some more about Beauford Delaney and the color YELLOW.
This is my painting in progress. I should be done soon:

"His paintings became freer, looser, more expressive of joy, and more colorfully complex. Yet he continued to faithfully make extensive use of yellow, a color that he associated with inner universal spirituality. The best example of this, and one of the best paintings in the show, makes central use of white and yellow as a symbol for intellect, creativity, happiness, and the power of persuasion." Felix Plaza set up a make shift printing studio to work in during quarantine. He has just finished these prints for this CREATE COLOR thread:
Artist Brece Honeycutt sent a lovely hand made card to me. She uses natural dyes which she makes from plants. Much like we did in Summer Session last year with Teaching Artist Iviva Olenick.
If you participated in that session (we spent the morning on the farm a few blocks from Kentler) you will recall the subtle nuance of color the natural pigments produced. Brece’s card is perfect for this thread. Particularly in how it ties into an art making experience we have had!
The dye forms a beautiful shape!
@evelyn.rv.beliveau yes, when Brece is next in NYC we should have her come in for an Advanced Studio Session. I think you would really love meeting her!
Do you recall the hand dyed top I wore to our Les Amis de ART YARD benefit? Brece is the one who dyed that for me!!
@ivivaolenick Iviva, are you working on any natural dyes from quarantine?
I looked up summer scobiosa to see what the plant looks like. Very pretty!
Teaching Artist Jane Huntington forwarded these pieces for our Color thread CREATE.
Jane took the photo used as her color inspiration on the High Line several years ago. She brought a print to her fathers house in Florida where she is now taking care of him.
Fatima Traore sends this new piece in for this thread!
Beautiful limited color palette new work by my friend Karla Prickett from Salina, Kansas:
My recently installed wall of Magical Things from Quarantine is quite colorful!
