ART YARD Advanced Studio
AYB Advanced Studio takes place weekly from September to June. Programs are held in the expansive, open warehouse of the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition (BWAC) in Red Hook, Brooklyn and on Zoom. We also take field trips to galleries, museums, and artists’ studios to see art in person. In Advanced Studio, we introduce masterful artworks as a springboard to explore timely, thought-provoking, challenging, and controversial ideas. Looking at artists’ intent, working methods, material use, or radical innovations, we foster open dialogue as a catalyst for learning. Participants are encouraged to respond to ideas and art-making methods in a personal fashion, using their own artistic voice. We share artwork after each session using inclusive critiquing methods that encourage all participants to develop comfort and skill in expressing opinions and making connections from the art studio to the outside world. We value each other as makers, recognizing that artists on all parts of their journey have an important voice to be recognized. Our Teaching Artists are a stylistically, culturally, and generationally diverse group of working artists. All materials are provided.
