ART YARD Portfolio at LaGuardia
FALL 2022 registration
ART YARD Portfolio aims to assist students in portfolio development, hone their ability to take excellent photographs of their art, develop strong interview skills, and provide organizational tools to help with the college application process.
This 8-week program will take place 7-9 pm on Wednesdays between September 7 - October 26, 2022 (prior to November 1st early action deadline). Classes are 2 hours long and will take place on Zoom.
The ART YARD Portfolio course is offered at $800 per student. We will accommodate between 8-12 students per group. Families will pay ART YARD directly by check, PayPal or Venmo. Scholarships are available through LaGuardia Art Studio. Fees are non-refundable.
ART YARD Portfolio prepares students in a holistic approach which includes: the development of written materials such as how to write about one’s work; art presentation - documentation vs. actuals; variety in theme; and cultivating a confident demeanor with critiques and mock interviews. We will make art in a variety of mediums that fulfills typical college portfolio requirements. Including: Drawing from life, photos, memory and imagination; interiors, cityscapes, portraits/figure. We will learn best art photography practices, how to write descriptions for portfolio presentation, and research tips. Integral to classes is a critiquing process that is key to developing self-expression, confidence, and public speaking skills; participants actively engage in review, informed exchange, and thoughtful comments about the work of the day. By engaging in our critique process students will gain necessary skills for strong college interviews.
Homework assignments are directly related to classes, promote individual learning and accomplishment as follow up, and support overall portfolio goals. Looking at Art is key to our process. We will look at relevant art examples as inspiration every session. Instructors will make suggestions for relevant exhibitions on view in venues around NYC.
The program will be highlighted with images of student work, description of the project and highlights from the lesson each Friday in the ART YARD Recap posted on our website.

Please complete the registration form below to participate. Spaces are limited. We recommend participants attend all classes. They must arrive on time and agree to participate in the classes with her/his highest level of concentration and focus. Respect for all is essential.

Your typed name serves as your signature on the registration form as well as consent for your child to be photographed and photographs of artwork made in the course to appear in the ART YARD recaps posted each week in our website.
