“One press account said I was an overnight sensation. I thought, that’s the longest night I have ever spent.” ~ Sandra Cisneros
AYB classes and school partnerships are on vacation in August, so I guess this entire recap could go under the Other Art News heading!
Did you see the AYB Ambassador, AYB Artist and Skateboard instructor extraordinaire, Liv Collins made the New York Times? Did you read all about the upcoming exhibition of Brooklyn-based artists at Brooklyn Museum? AYB Teaching Artists Aisha Tandiwe Bell and Susan Hamburger are both in! How about the lead story in today’s Hyperallergic about the Salon de Refusés exhibition at BWAC?!
Not to mention what you are perusing right now, the weekly AYB recap, where we round up our art news for the week!? Today you will find a meet up with an award winning photojournalist, important dates for our upcoming exhibition, and start dates for AYB Advanced Studio in person and on zoom.
Go Liv!!:
"...at a skatepark under the Kosciuszko Bridge in Brooklyn. When an attempt at a trick turned into a fall, they laughed it off alongside their instructor, Liv Collins, and a group of women they were skating with." The New York Times, "Pack Lunch, Drop Kids Off, Skate, Work", (updated) Aug. 28 2024
Congratulations to AYB Teaching Artists Aisha Tandiwe Bell and Susan Hamburger and all the artists included in The Brooklyn Artists Exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum!
Kudos to the Salon de Refusés 2024 artists, and thanks to BWAC, 481 Van Brunt Street, Red Hook, Brooklyn for hosting!
Speaking of the press, I had an chance meeting last week with Pulitzer Prize winning New York Times photojournalist Michelle Agins!
It was fascinating to hear about the people she has met over the years. Her work is now on view in a solo exhibition at the Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers. If we are lucky and all goes as planned, we will have an Advanced Studio session with Michelle some time this fall!
AYB Artist Vee Tenio shares new work in progress. They are now glazing their new ceramic work for cone 6:
